Steve Ross is the owner of SJR Builders Ltd.  The staff employed by SJR Builders includes an Office Manager, Site Foremen, Trade Qualified Builders and Apprentices in various stages of their training.

At any given time the company can have several projects under construction and it is realistic for an architectural home to take anywhere between 18 months to 2 years for completion.

Steve prefers to be involved with the Architect and Client very early on in the process before the plans are finalised.  If we have input at this early stage, we are able to help out with advice on better construction methods and practices.  This often results in more cost effective projects as well as a higher standard of finish.

Along with the close relationship Steve has with the Architects he finds the friendships that develop with clients very rewarding.  Communication is something that is easily taken for granted but SJR Builders Ltd recognise the value of keeping everyone in the loop with clear lines of communication established very early on in the projects.  You need to be clear and precise, never assume anything.

Along with managing a very busy and successful construction company Steve is involved in a number of voluntary roles.  SJR Builders Ltd is one of the longest serving Registered Master Builder Members in the Waikato.  For many years Steve has taken an active role in supporting the local branch.  Steve worked on the Executive for many years and along with being President has held the chairman positions for sub-committees.  Steve continues to be involved with the Apprentice of the Year competition however this is now more at the National level; in particular around the practical element of the competition.  Steve was presented with Life Membership to the Waikato Branch of the Master Builders at their recent Annual Members Meeting.  This membership is given in recognition of his outstanding and important contribution and service made to Waikato Registered Master Builders.

Having a number of apprentices employed Steve values the investment he makes in the future betterment of the Construction Industry.  Seeing a young person leave school, develop and mature during the course of their apprenticeship and come out at the end as a talented competent tradesperson is rewarding.
